Biographical history
Jeanette “Jan” Alwyn Houghton nee Joyce (1924-2015) was a graduate of the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1946B. She helped organize reunions and was the official class representative with the Hamilton Civic Hospitals Nursing Alumnae Association. Jeanette would act as an "unofficial archivist" for her class.

Scope and content
Collection consists of records collected by Jeanette Joyce Houghton, documenting the activities of the graduates of the Hamilton General Hospital (HGH) School of Nursing (SoN) Class of 1946 (which includes class A and B), focusing primarily on activities of the Class of 1946B. Included are scrapbooks, photographs, news clippings, lists, letters, memorial programs, a ceramic pin, and a quilt. The collection is arranged into the following series:

Original accession consisting of “1 box of materials about Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing, Class 1946B, quilt, group photograph of graduating class 1946A&B” was donated to the Health Sciences Archives on June 2, 2008 by Jan and Charles Houghton.
Arrangement
Arrangement mostly follows arrangement identified by a previous archivist. The series entitled “historic material” was renamed “Alumnae material” and "Objects" was renamed "Memorabilia".
