File consists of two audio recordings on cassette and an edited transcript of an oral history interview conducted by Mary Tremblay with James Burke on December 20, 1991. Also included is correspondence from Mary Tremblay to James Burke, explaining the nature of her research, her dissertation, and publications.

The interview documents Burke’s life from his 1940 car accident to independent living as a writer. Topics include: seven-year hospitalization and institutional attitudes; early rehab at Lyndhurst Lodge; securing his first wheelchair and hand-controlled car; freelance writing and editorship of Caliper; advocacy for positive media images of disability; community living at the Toronto YMCA; marriage to actress Laddie Dennis; and self-designed home accessibility.
