Scope and content
Series consists of records documenting oral history interviews conducted by Mary Tremblay, as part of her research on the history of rehabilitation in Canada, with a focus on veteran experiences with rehabilitation and disability policy after the First and Second World Wars. As part of the oral history projects, Mary Tremblay would collect supplemental research material from the narrators. Included are audio recordings, transcripts, photographs, photocopied news clippings, articles, cards, drawings, and a booklet. Also included is correspondence from Mary Tremblay to narrators, discussing the purpose and processes of the research project and subsequent publications resulting from the oral histories.

Availability of other formats
The majority of typed transcripts have been digitized to PDF format. Many of the audio recordings are in the process of being digitized.
Restrictions on access
Access restrictions due to ethical concerns have been placed on some interviews that do not contain an archive deposit form. Some transcripts are restricted and are to be redacted to protect 3rd party privacy. Please connect with the HSL Archivist for access inquiries.
Terms governing use, reproduction, and publication
Copyright for the majority of interviews has been waived by both the interviewer and the narrator to maximize access for research. This information is documented in the archive deposit forms provided by Mary Tremblay to narrators upon completing their oral history interviews, signed by both parties. Where copyright has been retained, a note is included in the corresponding file description.

General note
Transcript content may vary slightly from the original recordings. As part of the interview process, Mary Tremblay provided initial transcripts to narrators for review and editing. In cases where both edited and unedited versions existed within a single file, only the edited and finalized versions were retained. Tremblay also created and preserved bound, edited copies of transcripts; duplicate copies were removed. Each edited transcript includes an appendix or index of significant topics, themes, individuals, and places referenced in the interviews, with corresponding page numbers. These indexes were created by Tremblay to support research and accessibility.
General note
A small number of records document oral history interviews conducted by Mariane Bakarich, who was a graduate student hired by Mary Tremblay to assist in her research; and Professor Jerry Bickenback from Queens University.
General note
Letters found explicitly state that material from three interviews was to be removed and destroyed due to the withdrawal of consent for Mary Tremblay's studies. In compliance, this material was removed and destroyed by the archives technician upon consultation with the HSL archivist.
General note
Authority records and file descriptions for this series are currently a work in progress and will be updated.
