File consists of an audio recording on cassette and a copy, and an edited transcript of an oral history interview conducted by Mary Tremblay with Peter (Ted) Carviel on April 21, 1995. Also included is correspondence from Mary Tremblay regarding the interview.
The interview documents Carviel’s 1953 mining accident and ensuing career. Topics include: experimental cervical fusion surgery; training at the Western Rehabilitation Centre; Workmen’s Compensation and vocational re-training; difficulties securing employment; adaptation of vehicles with homemade hand controls; campaigning for equitable driver licensing; involvement with early Paraplegic Association rallies; world travel and public-attitude change toward disability.
